Bahrain celebrate Shaikh Nasser win


Date: 9-11-2008- HIS Majesty King Hamad led the Kingdom in hailing Bahrains bronze medal winning performance in the World Endurance Horseride Championship which concluded yesterday at the Terengganu International Endurance Park in Terengga, Kuala Lumpur.

In a cable congratulating the winners, His Majesty hailed Shaikh Nasser as an ideal role model for Bahraini youth who are striving for a bright future in sports at the international level.

His Majesty added that having Shaikh Nasser on the podium along with champions from the UAE and Qatar was a great moment for GCC countries.

During their stay in Terengganu, Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid met Malaysian Monarch Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin and presented him with a special gift from His Majesty.

Over 242 riders, representing 34 countries from across the world, started this race but few could cross the finish line due to heavy rain, especially in the first three stages.

Maria Mercedes of Spain dominated the race from the start and finished on top in eight hours, 48 minutes and six seconds.

Behind her was Argentine rider Agustin Vita in 8:57.35 while Sultan bin Sulayem of the UAE (9:09:31) was third.

The next four places were won by UAE riders - Shaikh Majid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum finished fourth and was followed by Mohammed Al Saboosi, Mubarak bin Shafia and Abdulla bin Hazeem in that order.
